Tidy, tidy, spick and span! Before.....

This week at Knit, Natter & Stitch its been time for some spring cleaning, since our numbers have grown and the amount of items and resources donated to us have increased, we have one super full cupboard of goodies. We could hardly see inside it? So it is time for a transformation.
We have material, patterns, cottons, yarn, machinery, gadgetry and more, stocked high and in need of a bit of organising. So we got our hands dirty and dare I say it we were ruthless!
What an amazing selection of resources we found!

But this big tidy up got us thinking, about unused items and scraps!

Our Knitters have been busy busy, check out this lovely wool table tidy!

Our crochet panels for War Against Weapons are inspiring and worked with love. A true team effort!

Our Junior members have been ragging, crocheting and sewing away, each week they continue to make us proud learning new skills and taking responsibility for being part of our community group.

My favourite things this week were.... Beverley's Crochet cushion cover, the coloured cottons around the table and the humming sound of planning taking place during our committee meeting.

Save our heritage crafts!

Knit, Natter and Stitch is made up of a community of individuals, sharing skills and celebrating life's moments, together we enjoy hearing about each others projects, achievements, weekly news and above all we inspire each other to learn new skills and try something new.

So we took a well earned break from our Wool Against Weapons projects, put down our needles and hooks and picked up a peg. Yes! Our much loved member Judi Gale brought along sacks and pegs which had been whittled and wing clipped by Mr Gale, and we set about bringing back the heritage craft of rag rugging. Members brought along scraps of fabric and old t-shirts and under Judi's careful instruction we got to work!

 

 

It was wonderful to see our junior members enjoying this craft and listening to the stories around the room, where we remembered family members ragging in their childhoods. The Community Centre we meet in was once a school and some of our more senior members used to attend school here. I am always struck by the history of the place, it felt warming to know that our junior members were now learning an old craft in such a historic building.

Many of us were mesmerised by how quickly the texture of the ragging builds, how the different colours or materials created differing affects.

 

Over the past few weeks there has been some wonderful personal projects on the tables, Lesley's been knitting a fabulous scarf for her husband for Valentines Day and Judi has been crocheting little flowers in bright colours to make two very special family heart shaped hangings for her Mum and future daughter in law whom will soon share a wedding anniversary day.

 

 

 

I love these little flowers, such happy colours and I am sure two very happy family members!

Pat Hammonds has been busy knitting for Premmie UK, I was overcome by emotion looking at these beautiful samples of burial gowns and tiny clothes. Joy Thomas' hand crafted babies continue to amaze and are perfect to show off Pat's handy work. If you fancy knitting for charities, there are so many patterns and deserving causes.

 

 

 Our Wool Against Weapons pieces are coming along nicely, we are all cooking up very individual and beautiful pieces to stand out in a 7 mile scarf protest between nuclear bases in the summer.
