Swings and Roundabouts.

Did we go to the funfair? Because it’s been a roller-coaster couple of months KNS fans.  Our weeks at Creed have been awesome. It’s a beautiful inspiring old building that has real soul. Creed Street have just announced their very exciting plans to refurb the tearoom into a proper, fully functioning bar and cafe to be open all week round.
When this refurb goes ahead we will need yet another new home, and then afterwards we have had to consider if the tearoom will still be the right venue for our community enterprise. On consideration of members being unable to sit together, sewing machines and the like may disrupt Creeds operations when they have other customers needing to enjoy their space,  the removal of the homemade cake and free coffee element, and the impact basing ourselves in a public bar may have on our junior members, we have decided it is best for us to move back to our old venue in New Bradwell.  We hope that as we move forward we will be able to work with the Community Centre committee to solve the heating problems in a way that is community driven.

Another factor that has bought us to this decision is the fact when Creed reopens we will need to purchase tea, coffee, and cake directly from them. We fear that the cost of this may be inhibitive to some members, as it will obviously work out more than our current £2.50 subs for which you may have as many cups of coffee, and sample cake till your hearts content. Our £2.50 subs are also vital to the survival of our group in more ways than just overheads. Spare money is put in a kitty. Eventually we hope this kitty will build to directly benefit the clubs members. With it we can buy equipment for community use,  host community fund raising initiatives, and maybe even help to subsidise some trips.

KNS was born in the spirit of bringing like minder crafters within the community together in a low cost way to admire each others work, skill share, and make new friends to laugh with, and of course eat cake with. Cake being essential to the heart and soul of all craft. We hope that when we move our new Wolverton members will follow, because we have met amazing new people since being at Creed and we would hate to lose these new links and friendships.  We wish Creed Street every success with its new venture that is filling real void in the local area.

But, what a homecoming we are going to have!!

Yes, on the 17th we have decided to treat you all to a little bit of demo fun for bearing with us over the last few months. Embroidery is the name of the game, and pattern transfer techniques to be precise. There will be a small kit available to buy on the night if you wish for £2 each that will include all you need for the task as well as a small embroidery frame. Or if your already skilled in the craft, why not bring some of your own to show the beginners what can be achieved, a little inspiration goes a long way for these type of do's. We will have some sample simple patterns on hand to try, but if you wish to do your own feel free to bring something you would like to have a go at. As a guide the hoops in the kits will be 4" by 4 ".  So you design will need to be slightly smaller than that. For ideas on designs I really love urban threads hand embroidery designs. Sarah is calling this event "Sues Sparkly Stitch along." I'm not sure how sparkly it is, but I like it!!

Big Love and keep stitching

Its not all vintage flowers and crochet at this Stitch Club!

With a nice cup of tea in hand and the small children amusing themselves, it's time to preach wondrous stuff from our recent Knit, Natter and Stitchery.

Sue Myhill embarked on this design, working her stitches over the fabric to create a stunning finished work, such an effective way method. Watch this space - Sue will be running a demonstration during June using similar techniques so if this project inspired you, come along and have a go!
In progress -

Finished -

Our stitching circle of friends have sure been busy; Sam has been tending to Evie's 17th Century clothes ready for the Sealed Knot Season ahead, whilst Sandra has now finished her felt Christmas Stocking and moved onto a lovely bracelet project.

I finished my Drop in the Pond crochet blanket, completed by watching the online video tutorials at
http://www.youtube.com/user/Bethintx1 .I haven't been crocheting long, but found these tutorials very easy to follow and you can pause and replay sections. Amelie is very pleased with her bright blanket; have you used online tutorials? post them and your results on our facebook page, or comment on this blog.

There have been some fabulous cakes appearing at our sessions recently, you all are so talented and boy are they yummy! Thank you to all those members whose multi-talented cake baking has been graciously enjoyed. Don't forget if you sign up to bake at a session you get in FREE!

Pat's really cooking with gas, since her return from her operation - she's been wearing her hooks out running up these lovely contributions to a bunting project. And Judi joined us in a break to her City and Guilds with the wonderful Jane Charles, to work on some of her embroidery, I didn't get a close up shot but Judi showed us a piece where organza and other bits of material had been stitched together using a soluble layer of film, golden spirals of stitching with delicate textures layered underneath - simply stunning and inspiring!

This weeks session was enjoyed in the lovely 1908 theatre inside Creed, we admired the wooden floor, the beautiful theatre surround and atmosphere. Our Bank Holiday treat - lemon drizzle cupcakes by Eleanor and for those who missed it this week, we unfortunately will not be running next Monday 3rd June as there is a magical production taking place in our usual tearoom spot. So we will see you back at Creed on Monday 10th June.
Also you will have missed my notice inviting you to our AGM, which will take place during our usual Monday session on Monday 24th June. We will be looking to adopt a new committee and agree a group constitution, so please let me know if you would like me to email you the invitation for the AGM, copy of the suggested constitution and nomination slips at kns@buckspoint.org.uk.

Happy half term!
Love Sarah

Creed Street Love and Sunshine.

"Sun is shining, the weather is sweet
Make you want to move your dancing feet
To the rescue, here i am
Want you to know, y'all, where i stand"
~ Bob Marley

And how completely right the late great Bob Marley was.... but KNS fans, where do we stand I hear you all cry? Yes last week was the vote to stay at  Creed Street Theatre and arts centre, so WHO WANTS TO STAY?

Despite the lovely Eleanor and Sandra being a little to slow for the posed photo I can assure you the vote was unanimous, and stay we will. We are feeling allot of Creedy love in that place and finding it all very inspiring. Theres a great future for this community venture at Creed Street, and we want to thank all our members for their patience, support, cake supply,  and shoulders to cry on during the process of new venue finding and the move.

Well the suns out and the weather has indeed been very sweet. Whats been on the KNS needles this awesome mayday bank holiday.... well....

CHRISTMAS OF COURSE!! It was great to see Pat back safe and well this week from her op with her crochet Christmas tree bunting. Sandra is busying herself with one of her fab felt Christmas stockings. These things look amazing when finished and do take a bit to finish, so nobody can blame them for being prepared....pass the suncream.....

KNS has been like the outbreak monkey spreading the crochet bug, its bringing in some fabulous results, and I do believe we will all need a room in some posh celebrity rehab clinic soon.....

Not to mention Sarah's epic bed runner which will be a five foot master piece, now theres dedication. Pimms and Ice cream.... not sure how they snuck into the room on such a sunny bank Holiday...
Some quilting arrived this week and I'm just loving the colours and pretty fabric used in this red and blue creation. Its going to be quite striking.

Just left to mention whats turned up all finished for showing off. Sandra's cross stitch sugar skull has now been lovingly hand stitched into a big cushion and a fine job was done of it to. We think its a stunning piece as is all of Sandra's superb work.
We are also loving junior stitcher Kathrine's "show me show me stuffy". This has been lovingly created for her 3 year old niece, and is all of Kathrine's own design. Well done Kath!!
Whats left to say then? Cake, of course there was isn't there always? Kerry with this delicious cheese cake awesomeness we DEMAND you come again!

So KNS fans. Don your summer gear, and come visit us with your project. Its what life was made made for.

Big Love
Sue x
